Sheltie Colors
Shelties come in a variety of colors, many of which we have had here in our rescue.
The classic sable may be light golden or have some amount of black, called Mahogany Sable, like our Greta.
Some people say Tri-color Shelties have a special attitude about them. We might agree. Our Heidi is a tri with no white on her face.

Blue Merle Shelties are interesting and come in many different patterns from very silver to black and grey.
Sable Merle is not a color that is shown on the ASSA site, but we have had dogs like Dixie come through who are clearly a mix of blue and sable.
Bi-Black and Bi-Blue
We have not had any bi-blue dogs in our rescue, but the Bi-Black’s come in. They often have no white on their faces so good pictures are hard to take.
Zoe and Dante are the Bi-Blacks we have had.
Double Merle is NOT a good thing for a sheltie. When breeders try to get more white on their shelties, they can breed two Merle dogs together and if the recessive genes happen, then a mostly white dog will result. They are very handsome, but are quite often blind or deaf or both, which is why they end up in Rescue.
Galen and Olaf are two deaf double merle Shelties we have had.
